Joint naval exercise 'Operation Hamla' starts off

In Orissa coast, the joint naval exercise 'Operation Hamla' started off today to strengthen security systems along the 480-km long coastline of the state. Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Orissa marine and civil police have been participating in this mock drill to revisit their preparedness in the wake of possible sea-based terrorist attack. INS Nirvik has arrived at Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district of Orissa to take part in the two-day exercise. Local fishermen have also been involved in this mock drill. Orissa Home Secretary, Mr. Upendra Nath Behera, told media persons at Bhubaneswar that the exercises are part of the ongoing programme to strengthen coastal security. The ‘Operation Hamla’ is the third naval exercise in Orissa. Earlier, two similar joint naval exercises were held in the state on 29th and 30th July in 2009 and later on 3rd and 4th February this year.
