Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya today reiterated that India is committed to job security, wage security and social security for all.<br/><br/> Addressing the BRICS Labour and Employment Ministerial meeting in New Delhi today, Mr Dattatreya said, employment generation is India's prime goal and at the same time government is working towards enhancing the welfare of the workers through various initiatives. <br/><br/>He said, Government is committed to inclusive growth so that the benefits reach the marginalized sections and they become integral to the growth process. The Minister said, two historic reforms have been introduced and India has put a complete ban on employment below 14 years of age and on employment in hazardous occupations below 18 years of age. <br/><br/>He said, Government of India is now in a position to ratify the ILO conventions 138 and 182 concerning Child Labour. He said, the process in this direction has been started. Mr Dattatreya said, Government has presented the amendment to Maternity Benefit Act, raising the paid maternity benefit from 12 weeks to 26 weeks. <br/><br/>The Minister said, BRICS is about practical cooperation and Indian Presidency is working with a five pronged approach for cooperation. He said, the officers of the BRICS have reached at a broad consensus on Social Security Agreement and networking of BRICS Labour Institutes.<br/><br/> He said, BRICS forum has a unique advantage of having a significant set of common characteristics of labour market economic development as well as common challenges. Mr Dattatreya said, India strongly adhere to the ethos of tripartism and expressed hope that the universally accepted tripartite model will enrich the deliberations.
