A scuffle broke out today between two groups of lawyers outside Patiala House court in New Delhi where hearing of sedition case against JNU Student Union President Kanhaiya Kumar was scheduled to take place. Reports say some media persons were also assaulted. Earlier, the same bitter scene had also erupted outside the court on Monday.

Talking to reporters, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi rejected media reports that Kanhaiya Kumar was attacked when he was on his way to court room. He said, there was only jostling due to the crowd and JNSU leader was escorted by police officers and was taken care of. The Police Chief said the JNU leader before leaving for Patiala Court gave a statement in the form of an appeal, expressing his confidence in the Constitution. The JNU leader condemned the controversial protest at the university campus and termed it as unfortunate. He said he did not support the unconstitutional anti-India slogans raised by the protesters.

Mr. Bassi said since Kumar is making an appeal, he personally feels that a young person can perhaps be considered for being given a chance. The Police Chief also said that Delhi Police have no objection if he seeks bail.
Mr. Bassi informed that the police have also summoned three lawyers and BJP MLA O P Sharma in connection with assault on journalists on Monday at the court.
