JNU row: Court to give order on Umar, Anirban's bail on Friday

A local court in Delhi today reserved for Friday its order on JNU students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya's bail pleas in a sedition case. The bail application was opposed by the police on the ground that allegations were grave as they were the main organisers of the campus event on the 9th of last month.

The duo, who have been lodged in jail since February 23, has sought bail on the ground of parity with JNU Student Union (JNUSU) President Kanhaiya Kumar, saying he has already been granted bail and the incident did not attract charges of sedition.

In a related incident, a judge today referred petitions for cancellation of interim bail of Kanhaiya Kumar to the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court for allocating it before another bench. The court took the decision after objection was raised by one of the petitioners to the warning that they may have to bear the cost on dismissal of their pleas.
