Jnanpith awardee Dr C Narayana Reddy passes away

Eminent Poet and Jnanpith Award recipient Dr C Narayana Reddy passed away this morning in Hyderabad. He was 86. He has been ailing for some time. <br/><br/>Born in Karimnagar district of Telangana in 1931, he received the highest literary award of the country, Jnanpith, for his ' Viswambhara' in 1988. Prior to that, the Government honoured his with Padmasri and Padma Bhushan for his scholarly writings.<br/><br/>Popularly known as 'CiNaRe', he was proficient in Telugu, Urdu and Hindi and several other languages and wrote hundreds of books in all forms of literature. He also wrote lyrics for hundreds of Telugu Films.<br/><br/>Many of his books have become part of curriculum for several courses of higher education in Telangna and Andhra Pradesh. Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over his demise. <br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences at the demise of eminent poet C Narayana Reddy. In his message, the Prime Minister said Reddy's demise is a major loss to the literary world. He said the poet's works struck a chord with people across generations. Mr Modi said his thoughts are with the family and well wishers of Reddy.<br/><br/>Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkiah Naidu also deeply mourned the sad demise of the former parliamentarian and Gyanpeeth awardee. In his condolence message, he said that late Dr.Reddy was known for his constructive suggestions in the field of art, literature and culture. Mr. Naidu recollected his contribution to the Telugu literature and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.<br/><br/>
