Jharkhand Governor M.O.H. Farook has returned the state government's ordinance related to regularization of houses constructed without government approval. An official at Raj Bhavan told AIR Ranchi correspondent that the governor has asked the government to seek approval of the cabinet first and then send it to him. The state cabinet is meeting this evening on this mater. The state government on Thursday cleared the ordinance regularizing unauthorised houses. According to one estimate, there are 1.70 lakh houses in Ranchi out of which more than 1.50 lakh have been constructed without the approval of the authorities. On the directive of the Jharkhand High Court, a demolition drive is going on in the entire state against unauthorized buildings and encroachments on government land, green areas and which have no sanctioned plans. The state government had earlier, through a cabinet decision, cleared a rehabilitation policy for those people whose houses are constructed on government land and have been demolished. Under the policy, the below poverty line families will get alternative houses.
