Jharkhand has banned extraction of sands from rivers near bridges with immediate effect.The order issued by Chief Minister Arjun Munda bans sand extraction from both sides within 250 meters for minor and 500 meters for major bridges on all National and State highways and district roads. Mr. Munda has also directed to amend rules of the department of mines.The order has been issued to prevent instability to the pillars of bridges as there were reports that suggested that sand extraction from Kanchi river near the bridges on NH-33 can create problem for the bridges.
