In Jammu and Kashmir, a women self help group (SHG) in Mishri Wala village in the outskirts of Jammu, is working tirelessly to create eco-friendly cow dung Diyas for the upcoming Diwali festival. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that this initiative, led by Rajat Salgotra, an active member of the NGO Disha foundation turned entrepreneur, aims to promote women's empowerment and reduce plastic waste. Salgotra's start-up, Samast Eco Alternatives Private Limited, introduced cow dung Diyas to the Jammu market last year, and this year, they plan to offer over 20 thousand of these eco-friendly lamps for Diwali. The Diyas are not only environmentally friendly but also offer employment to village women. The cow dung Diyas, when burnt, leave no waste and can be used as an insecticide or fertilizer. The endeavour supports women's livelihoods and sustainable development, making it a shining example of empowerment and eco-consciousness in the community.
