J&K to finalize Mission for Basmati cultivation in Jammu

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has reiterated his government’s determination to uplift the farming community and bring about a healthy change in their economic condition.Addressing a farmers gathering after inaugurating the office of the Kissan Advisory Board at Jammu today, he said that the self – reliance in agriculture production is directly related to the overall welfare of the farmers. Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir said that the Agriculture Department is finalizing a Mission for Basmati cultivation in Jammu similar to that of the Saffron Mission approved by the Centre Government for the Valley. He said that the efforts of his government are to get the project approved from the Union Government and give new dimension to the production and marketing of Basmati in Jammu.Meanwhile, the State government today directed the Food Corporation of India to procure all varieties of Paddy from 15 Purchase Centres and Mandies of Jammu Province from November 11 to provide farmers of the region better market opportunities at their doorsteps.
