In Jammu and Kashmir, in view of growing market demand for Ayurvedic and Unani medicines, the state Government will develop medicinal plants industry in a big way in the State and an amount of Rs. 6.83 crore will be spent during the current fiscal for the purpose. <br/> <br/>The State Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture while addressing farmers at a one-day Workshop-cum-Seminar on Medicinal Plants, at Jammu yesterday said that people are shifting from Allopathic to Ayurvedic and Unani medicines, increasing thereby the demand for traditional drugs manifold. Keeping in view the growing need of these drugs in the market, the Government has decided to develop the AYUSH in a big way. He said that Jammu and Kashmir has great scope for the development of medicinal plants and all out efforts will be made to tap the potential fully.<br/> <br/>AIR Correspondent Yogesh Sharma reports that Mr. Sharma impressed upon the farmers to cultivate the medicinal plants for which the Government will provide them all necessary assistance. He said that Central Government has sanctioned National Mission on Medicinal Plants in 2008 under the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Mission provides various incentives in its different components including plant production, area expansion, marketing and processing facilities etc.<br/>
