J&K to bear over Rs 2000 cr loss on supply of electricity: Omar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that the economic growth and holistic progress in the State directly depends on a self-reliant power sector. Addressing a public gathering in Bishnah Tehsil in the outskirts of Jammu, Omar said the J&K Government has to bear over 2,000 crore rupees as losses on the supply of electricity to the consumers in the State per annum. Omar said his Government has launched various medium and small power projects to generate over 4,000 to 5,000 MWs of additional power in the State during next six years and help growth and development of all sectors and generation of economic activities.Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Power Grid Station at Bishnah completed at a cost of over 69 crore rupees to strengthen the transmission and distribution system in Jammu Division.
