In the largest recruitment in years, Jammu and Kashmir police has selected 510 candidates for the posts of sub-inspector in the force. A police spokesman said today that the selected candidates include 266 in the executive wing, 210 in armed wing, 11 in auxiliary wing and 23 in telecom wing. He said this was by far the largest recruitment of officers of the rank of sub-inspector as only 255 such officers had been recruited in the department since 2001. Official sources said the recruitment of the large number of junior level officers in the force was part of the plan to put the state police at the forefront of the law and order duties in the long run.The proceedings of the selection process were video graphed to avoid any controversy or allegations about favouritism or discrimination. Despite unrest in the valley, the interviews for the posts were held in the month of June to ensure that the recruitment process does not suffer.
