Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing “Run for Fun” event which includes the first ever marathon and half-marathon in the valley. The event is slated for this Saturday. A police spokesman said in Srinagar today that the marathon will be flagged off from Police Golf Course on the banks of Dal Lake. The participants will run up to neighbouring Ganderbal district town while passing through Habak and return to Golf Course for the finish. The total distance covered by the athletes will be 42 kilometres.The spokesman said in the half-marathon, the participants will run up to Habak Crossing and return to the flagging off point at Police Golf Course, covering a distance of 21.5 kilometres.Shorter distance runs of four kilometers for senior citizens and children and 12 kilometres for children under the age of 16 years have also been scheduled. As per the spokesman, the event is being conducted by police under its Civic Action Programme and a mass participation of the people representing different shades of life is expected.
