In Jammu and Kashmir, focused attention is being paid by the state government to upgrade infrastructure in core sectors for the benefit of common people, especially those living in remote and far flung areas. The state government in its bid to bridge the gap of development between the rural and urban areas, is striving to improve the basic amenities, power infrastructure and laying of roads in remote areas.AIR correspondent reports, in Jammu and Kashmir the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch have received focused attention of the Government during the last three years and hitherto neglected areas of these twin border districts have witnessed massive development in almost every sphere though still a lot needs to be done in these areas. Most of the remote and inaccessible areas of these twin districts were without electricity but thanks to Centrally sponsored scheme of Rajeev Gandhi Grameen Vidutikaran Yojana (RGVVY) , many villages and hamlets have been provided electricity through this prestigious scheme. While Rs. 29 crores are being spent on the upgradation of electricity facilities in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch under the RGVVY scheme, the State government has further submitted a project proposal of Rs. 28 crore for central funding to extend electricity facility to the other left over villages and hamlets of these districts under the scheme. Besides 112 road projects, involving estimated cost of Rs. 149 crore have been taken up during last three years under state and centre schemes in the districts while execution of 37 road projects with a cumulative estimated cost of Rs 120 crore have also been also taken up during the period under Prime Ministers Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) even as 25 more road projects have been also submitted to centre for funding under PMGSY.
