In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Panchayati Raj Institutions(PRIs) are performing a seminal role in implementing various development programmes in Kulgam district, says District Magistrate, Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat. These institutions are also playing an important part in ensuring social inclusion in the Government Programmes and improving the quality of life in rural areas of this South Kashmir district. In an exclusive interview with AIR News, Mr Bhat said, with the active support of PRI representatives as well as general populace, the Administration has been able to retrieve encroached land in nearly 180 Panchayats and turn it into playfields.
''
''Mr Bhat informed that the District Administration has also successfully restored a record 205 water bodies which serve as sources of many rivers flowing through the district. Mr Bhat stated that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, they have set a target of providing water connections to remaining households in the district by August this year. He said, besides creating avenues of self-employment for the youth, the Administration has also engaged them in several programmes aimed at generating awareness among the public, such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, drug de-addiction and conservation of natural resources. With an objective to enhance overall learning process and experience of students, the Administration digitalised more than 60 schools last year.
''
''Mr Bhat said the Administration ensured infrastructure development in tribal-dominated areas and provision of basic amenities to tribal people.
