J&K: Kulgam administration promotes organic farming to prevent pesticide use

<span style="color: #222222;">Kulgam district administration in Jammu and Kashmir is extensively promoting organic farming so that people can consume food items that are safe, healthy and free from chemicals and pesticides. As part of the efforts towards this end, it established an organic vegetable cluster in Wanigund last year. More than 200 farmers residing in the village are engaged in vegetable cultivation throughout the year.<br />''     <br />''Speaking to AIR News, District Magistrate, Bilal Mohi-ud-din, said they are also promoting spices and pickles under the One District One Product, ODOP, initiative of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. ODOP is a transformational step towards realising the true potential of a district, generating employment and encouraging rural entrepreneurship. The District Magistrate informed that nearly 60,000 soil health cards have been given to farmers in the district.<br />''   <br />''Mr Bhat said under the Mumkin scheme, over 100 subsidised commercial vehicles have been distributed among the unemployed youth to enable them to earn a sustainable livelihood. </span><br />
