The Head of the three-member panel appointed by the Centre on Jammu and Kashmir Dilip Padgaonkar says that the interlocutors have given a permanent solution to the vexed problem after widest possible consultations across the state. Talking to reporters after submitting the report of the panel to the Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi today, he said that the panel has also suggested solutions for economic development and addressing the socio-cultural concerns of the three regions of the state. Mr. Padagonkar said, they met 600 delegations in 22 districts of the state besides holding three round table conferences with women activists and scholars to seek their opinion on the issue.
AIR correspondent reports that the panel is believed to have recommended devolution of powers to Panchayti Raj institutions in the state. Centre is toying with the idea of convening an all party meeting to discuss the report.
Ahead of the meeting, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met the Home Minister in New Delhi yesterday and exchanged views on the prevailing security situation in the state.
