Jammu and Kashmir is heading for a hung Assembly while in Jharkhand BJP is emerging as the largest single party in the 81-member house. Jharkhand Chief Minister and JMM leader Hemant Soren has won Barhait seat in Sahebganj district. He defeated his nearest BJP rival by a margin of over 23,000 votes.
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of National Conference has been defeated from Sonawar seat and is trailing in Beerwah constituency. No single party appear to be getting majority of 44 seats in the 87-member house in Jammu & Kashmir. The results and the trends available indicate that the PDP is likely to emerge as the largest single party in the State.
Six results have been declared so far in Jammu & Kashmir. Three seats have gone to the BJP, two for PDP, and one in favour of National Conference.
BJP candidate Kuldeep Raj has won from Hira Nagar constituency by a margin of 55,399 votes over his nearest rival Girdhari Lal Chalotra of Congress. Party candidate Ravinder Kumar has won the Nowshera seat. Another BJP candidate Neelam Kumar Langeh has been elected from Ramban. Raja Manzoor Ahmad of PDP has won Karnah seat by a margin of 5,775 votes over his nearest rival Kifil Ur Rehman Khan of National Conference. His party colleage Shah Mohammed Tantray has been elected from Poonch Haveli. In Nagrota constituency, National Conference candidate Devender Singh Rana defeated his nearest BJP rival Nand Kishore by a margin of over 4,000 votes.
PDP is leading in 26 constituencies; BJP in 22; National Conference in 9; Congress-10 and others are leading in 7 constituencies. The BJP which had 11 seats in the outgoing assembly is likely to make major gains. The ruling National Conference had 28 members and PDP 21. The Congress had 17 members in the house.
PDP leader Mufti Mohammed Sayed is leading in Anantnag constituencies by a margin of over 6,000 votes over his nearest congress rival Hilal Ahmad Shah.
Sajjad Gani Lone of Jammu & Kashmir People Conference is leading in Handwara Assembly seat by more than 3,800 while Dr.Krishan Lal of BJP is leading in Chhamb constituency by over 14,790 votes over his nearest rival and sitting MLA Tara Chand of Congress. Ghulam Nabi Lone of PDP is leading in Chrar-i-sharief by a margin of over 3,200 votes. Sitting MLA Abdul Rahim Rather of National Conference is trailing. PDP candidate Aijaz Ali Khan, who was leading in Uri constituency, is now trailing by a margin of 478 votes. Mohammed Shafi of National Conference is leading in this constituency. Mohammed Abass Wani of PDP is leading in Gulmarg by a margin of 1,800 votes. Ranbir Singh Pathania of BJP is ahead of Harsh Dev Singh of Panthers Party by a margin of over 10,300 votes in Ram Nagar constituency. Ali Mohammed Sagar of National Conference is leading in Khanyar constituency by more than 1,100 votes over his nearest rival Mohammed Khurshid Alam of PDP. In Kargil, Congress candidate is in the lead while in Zanskar constituency, an Independent has taken the lead.
In Jharkhand out of 81 seats, results of Barhait and Majhgaon constituencies have been declared so far. Both seats have gone in favour of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidates. State Chief Minister Hemant Soren won from Barhait seat defeating his nearest rival BJP candidate by a margin of over twenty three thousand votes, while Niral Purty defeated former State Chief Minister Madhu Kora of Jai Bhart Samanta Party.
Trends from Jharkhand indicate that BJP is leading in 34 constituencies, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in 15, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, JVM (Prajatantrik) in 6, Congress in 7 constituency, Rashtriya Janta Dal in 2, All Jharkhand Students Union in 3 and others in 8 seat. Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda is leading in Saraikela seat. In Jamshedpur East, BJP candidate Raghubar Das is leading by over thirty eight thousand five hundred votes, while in Jamshedpur West, the party is leading over Congress candidate by over twenty five thousand nine hundred votes. BJP candidate Chandreshwar Prasad Singh is leading in Ranchi Constituency by over forty five thousand votes against his nearest rival JMM candidate Mahua Maji, while in Giridih seat BJP candidate is ahead of JVM(Prajatantrik) party candidate by over ten thousand eight hundred votes. JVM candidate Babulal Marandi is leading in Dhanwar constituency. RJD candidate Ram Chandra Singh is leading by a margin of more than six thousand nine hundred votes against his nearest rival BJP candidate in Manika seat. In Hatia seat Naveen Jaiswal of JVM(Prajatantrik Party) is leading over twenty two thousand seven hundred votes against Bhartiya Janta Party candidate.
