J&K heading for hung assembly; BJP set to form govt in J'khand

In Jammu and Kashmir, results of all the 87 have been declared. PDP has emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats followed by BJP with 25 seats. National Conference has bagged 15 seats and Congress 12 seats. Seven seats have gone to others.

The results have thus thrown up a hung assembly as no single party has touched the magic figure of 44 seats needed to form the government in the State.

In Jharkhand, stage is set for formation of next government of Bharatiya Janata Party. Counting of votes in most of the constituencies has been completed. The Commission has withheld announcement of results of six constituencies on different technical reasons including non function of EVMs and not pushing of closure button after polling. The Chief Election Officer of the State PK Jajoria said this evening at Ranchi that it will not affect the results of the concerned constituencies as margins of the leading candidates are decisive. He said results will be declared after clearance from the Election Commission.

In Jammu and Kashmir, outgoing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah won from Beerwah but lost in Sonawar. He defeated Congress leader Nazir Ahmed in Beerwah but lost to PDP candidate Mohammad Ashraf Mir from Sonawar seat. State Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather was among the prominent losers. He was defeated by Ghulam Nabi Lone of PDP from Charar-e-Sharief. This was Rather's first defeat in assembly elections since 1977.

PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed won from Anantnag and former JK Bank chairman Haseeb Drabu from Pulwama. The party swept all four Assembly seats in Pulwama district. In Laddakh, Congress has won three seats while one seat has gone to an Independent candidate.

Separatist turned mainstream politician Sajjad Gani Lone defeated National Conference minister Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan from Handwara. Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand of Congress lost to BJP's Krishan Lal from Chamb constituency by a margin of over 14,700 votes.

Javed Ahmed Rana has been elected from Mendhar over his nearest rival Mohammed Mahroof Khan of PDP by a margin of over 9,000 votes. Chaudhary Mohammed Akram of Congress defeated his nearest rival Mushtaq Ahmed Shah of National Conference by a margin of over 8,000 votes. Abdul Ghani Kohli of BJP won Kala Kote seat defeating Rachhpal Singh of National Conference. Qamar Hussain of PDP defeated Chaudhary Talib Hussain of BJP from Rajouri. Chaudhary Zulfkar Ali of PDP has been elected from Darhal defeating Choudhary Liaqat Ali of National Conference. In Akhnoor, BJP Candidate Rajiv Sharma has been elected. In Raipur Domana, BJP candidate Bali Bhagat has been declared elected. Sukhnandan Kumar of the same party has been elected from Marh.

BJP has also bagged Jammu East, Jammu West and Gandhinagar seats. Samba, Vijay Pur, Bilawar, Kathua, Basohli, Chennai, Bhaderwah, Doda and Reasi seats have also gone to BJP. Gool Arnas seat has been bagged by Congress. Gulab Garh and Banihal seats have also been won by Congress. Lolab, Rafiabad, Baramula, Sangrama, Gulmarg, Pattan, Zadibal, Batmaloo, Wachi, Noorabad and Bijbehara have been bagged by PDP.

In Jharkhand,as per available results and trends BJP and its ally All Jharkhand Students Union are in comfortable position for formation of government about to win 42 seats. BJP has already won 37 seats while AJSU has won 5 seats. Ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has won 18 seats and leading in one seat. Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi lead Jharkhand Vikas Morcha has won 7 seats and party is leading in one seat. Congress has faced severe set back in the elections. Party has lodged its victory in 4 seats and leading in two constituencies.

Prominent losers include former Chief Ministers Arjun Munda, Madhu Koda and Babula Marandi. Former Deputy CM and AJSU Chief Sudesh Mahato, Speaker of the Assembly Shahshank Shekhar Bhokta, Ministers Hazi Husain Ansari, Rajendra Prasad Singh, Lobin Hembram and Getta sri Oraon. Chief Minister of outgoing Government Hemand Soren has also lost its Dumka seat but he has won from Barhait constituency.

Prominent winners include Senior BJP leader Raghubar Das, Sarayu Rai, Geeta Koda wife of Madhu Koda, JMM leader and former Dy CM Stephan Marandi, Anos Ekka Chief of Jharkhand Party and four time MLA and former speaker of State Assembly CP Singh.

The Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Jajoria has said that he will submit list of newly elected MLAs on December 25 to the Governor of the State Dr Syed Ahmed.

Meanwhile, President of State BJP Ravindra Rai has said that it is the victory of leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hard works of party workers. He has said that after announcement of final results of the elections party will initiate process for formation of new government. Replying to a question he said that defeat of senior party leader Arjun Munda is a loss of the party.
