J&K govt to speed up flagship schemes

In Jammu and Kashmir, an amount of 99.74 crore rupees has been spent under NREGA upto January 2010. over 6 lakh job cards have been issued and 83.47 lakh Mandays generated. This was stated in a review meeting of Rural Development Department held in Jammu under the Chairmanship of J&K Minister for Rural Development Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar. The Minister asked the officers to speed up the pace of work on various flagship schemes of the Department. He also asked them to provide monthly reports so that proper projections can be made in these flagship schemes.<br/><br/>It was also given out that under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) construction of 11,525 houses have been taken up in Jammu division and 27,443 houses in Kashmir division. Under this flagship scheme, 18.70 crore rupees and 42.48 crore rupees have been utilized in both the divisions respectively.<br/><br/>In another development, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah has said that government is focusing added attention on the faster and balanced development of far-flung and remote areas of the State. Talking to a delegation who called on the Chief Minister in Jammu, he said while measures have been initiated to upgrade the five important sectors of road communication, health, education, water and power supply,. Mr. Omar said that under a comprehensive rural development strategy put into place by the government, necessary thrust has been given on providing basic amenities to the people adding on completion of scores of schemes under implementation across the state, there will be tremendous impact on development scenario in the state. The Chief Minister again reiterated his government’s commitment for equitable and holistic development of the all the areas of the state<br/>
