In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in a major decision, the UT Govt has decided to establish a high-security prison in the Jammu division. AIR Jammu Correspondent reports that the revenue department has issued a formal order transferring over 400 kanals of land situated at village Dhar Dharochan in Bhalwal tehsil in the outskirts of Jammu city in the favour of Prisons Department for the establishment of high security prison.<br />'' <br />'' According to the order, sanction is accorded to the transfer of state land measuring 400 Kanals situated at village Dhar Dharochan, in Tehsil Bhalwal of district Jammu for the establishment of a high-security prison. The land shall be used only for the purpose for which the sanction of transfer has been accorded obtaining all other permissions as may be required for its establishment from the competent authority, the order further reads. Prison department is facing a space crunch and is entrusted with providing correctional services to the inmates in an environment conducive to reformation. At present, there are 13 functional prisons in the Union Territory, including two central jails, nine district jails, one particular jail, and one sub-jail. The jail at Poonch is under construction, which will accommodate 200 inmates. Against a lodging capacity of 3246 inmates, the department is accommodating more than 4300 inmates.<br />
