J&K govt takes requisite measures to restore normal academic activity at NIT

The Jammu & Kashmir government is taking all requisite measures to restore normal academic activity at NIT campus. Additional contingents of security forces have been deployed outside the NIT campus in Srinagar. The agitating non local girl students staged protest demonstrations within campus.

They were demanding shifting of NIT campus outside Kashmir and action against the police officials and other personnel whom they alleged used excessive force on Tuesday. Police maintained that they used mild force after these students resorted to stone pelting and violence. Police have already lodged open FIR in the case. Two battalions of CRPF were deployed at the campus on Tuesday night.

The three-member team, headed by Director Sanjeev Sharma, yesterday met the NIT Director and also the protesting non-local students who have been boycotting classes for the past six days. The clashes began on the night of March 31 when India lost the world cup semi-final to West Indies. Some local students began celebrating the outcome. This was objected to by the non-Kashmiri students that followed the tension and unrest at the campus.
