J&K govt orders suspension of licenses of cable operators showing Pakistani channels

The Jammu & Kashmir government has ordered the district magistrates to stop unauthorised broadcast of 34 television channels, most of them Pakistani and Saudi, on cable networks. <br/><br/>The May 6 order from Principal Secretary Home came a day after Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu expressed concern over reports that these channels, many of which indulge in anti-India propaganda, were being broadcast without government's permission. <br/><br/>The order said, the transmission of these channels was against the cable TV rules and district magistrate had the power to seize the equipment in case of a violation. <br/><br/>It said, such channels had the potential to encourage or incite violence and create law and order disturbance in the Kashmir Valley. <br/><br/><br/>
