J&K govt orders judicial inquiry into death of NC worker

Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the death of a ruling National Conference worker, Sayeed Mohmmad Yousuf. Yousuf died on Friday morning at the Police Hospital, Srinagar after allegedly being called by Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani, to the Chief Minister’s camp office for an urgent meeting on Thursday afternoon. An official handout issued by the state government says, the deceased was called after receipt of complaint from two other workers that he had taken money from them to facilitate undue favour from the government. The family of the deceased have alleged that Yousuf was tortured to death in custody.
