J&K Gov appoints Advisors as political uncertainty prolongs

In Jammu & Kashmir, Governor N N Vohra has appointed retired state cadre IAS officers Parvez Dewan and Khursheed Ahmad Ganai as his advisors. The notification to this effect was issued last evening by the Governor, who allocated the business of the administration to the advisors. The State was placed under the Governor's Rule with effect from 8th of January as the PDP and BJP delayed the formation of new government due to reluctance by PDP president to take oath after the demise of the sitting Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. This was the 7th time Governor's rule was imposed in the state.

The latest development indicated that the Governor's Rule could be extended for a longer time in view of the ambiguity on the govt formation between PDP and BJP. Main Opposition National Conference Working President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said appointment of advisors by Governor was a clear indication of prolonged central rule followed by elections this year. It seems that after meeting PDP and BJP Presidents on 2nd of this month, Governor may have got opinion about certain difficulties in govt formation between the two coalition partners. Notably, Governor decided against the practice of appointing advisors last year when State came under Governor's rule.
