J&K Forest Dept formulates plan envisaging large scale afforestation during current monsoon season

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Forest Department and its allied wings of Social Forestry, Wild Life Protection and Soil and Water Conservation Departments have formulated an ambitious plan envisaging large scale afforestation during current monsoon season across various districts of Jammu region. <br />''<br />''AIR correspondent reports that the department has decided that plantation on degraded forests, Village Common Lands, State Lands and Panchayat lands will be taken up with active participation of Gram Panchayats. <br />''<br />''The officers were advised to educate the people through PRIs at district, block and village level to fully participate in these plantation drives.<br />'' <br />''Meanwhile, the Social Forestry Department has also drawn up a plan under Farm Forestry Programme to provide different plant saplings to interested farmers and common people as well at subsidized rates. <br />''<br />''Besides, the department will take up plantation of 14.15 lakh saplings over 1,802 hectare of area in different districts of Jammu region. <br />''<br />''Similarly, the department will undertake plantation of 10.35 lakh saplings over an area of 1,192 hectare in different districts of Kashmir region during the winter season. <br />''<br />''The DDCs and BDCs are also taking active part in plantation drives of the department within their respective jurisdiction. <br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The Forest Department has also drawn up a plan to utilize "MGNREGA" funds for taking up the plantation activities.</span><br />
