J&K floods:Situation improving gradually, Govt restores fuel supply

The flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir is improving gradually with the receding of flood water.

The Home Ministry official told AIR, the rescue operation which was halted last night, will be resumed after couple of hours. The spokesperson added that 60,000 people have rescued so far and National airlines Airindia has provided free services to evacuate foreign nationals from the flood ravaged valley.

They are dropped to Jammu, Chandigarh and Delhi. The telephone connection is expected to be restored in the valley by this morning.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has restored fuel supply in the Jammu region and efforts are on to move stocks into Srinagar. In official statement, it said the ministry has taken several measures to ensure availability of essential petroleum products in the aftermath of floods in the state.

It said, the availability of petrol, diesel and LPG have been brought to near normal in the division of Jammu.

Stating that the situation in Srinagar is challenging, it said efforts are being made to make sure that adequate fuel is made available at the earliest opportunity.

The statement said that there is adequate stock of petrol, diesel, kerosene and ATF in the depots of Oil Marketing Companies in Srinagar which will be immediately moved to the Retail Outlets once the roads become motorable.
