J&K floods: Rescue operation on, Govt restores fuel supply

Relief and rescue operation has been geared up in Kashmir valley with the receding of flood water.

Talking to AIR the spokesperson of Home Ministry said that Indian Air force has deployed 31 aircrafts and 30 choppers for this purpose. The navy also deployed 15 divers to fish out bodies from the river.

The spokesperson said that Army has set up 80 medical units in the state. He said National Disaster Response Force and Navy have deployed 283 boats for rescue operation. The spokesperson said that 60,000 people have been rescued so far. AirIndia also provided free service to evacuate tourists from the flood ravaged valley.

The rescued tourists are being brought to Jammu, Chandigarh and Delhi. The telephone connection is also expected to be restored in the valley by today.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has restored fuel supply in Jammu region and efforts are on to move stocks into Srinagar.

In official statement, it said the ministry has taken several measures to ensure availability of essential petroleum products in the aftermath of floods in the State of Jammu & Kashmir.

The statement said that there is adequate stock of petrol, diesel, kerosene and ATF in the depots of Oil Marketing Companies in Srinagar which will be immediately moved to the Retail Outlets once the roads become motorable.
