Over 1.25 lakh people have been rescued from the flood-ravaged parts of Jammu and Kashmir so far, as the relief operations launched by the Armed forces entered the eleventh day today.
Eighty-nine transport aircraft and helicopters of Indian Air Force and Army Aviation Corps have been pressed into service. Armed Forces personnel are distributing water bottles and food packets on a large scale in the flood-affected areas.
According to Defence Spokesman, more relief materials including water bottles, food packets and blankets are being airlifted from Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Patna, Amritsar and Chandigarh.
So far, 1,379 sorties were undertaken by the helicopters and aircraft of Armed Forces and about 1800 tonnes of relief materials were dropped by the Indian Air Force.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has announced 200 crore rupees relief for the state. He also announced 3.5 lakh rupees for the kin of those who lost their lives in the disaster.
Addressing a press conference at Srinagar Airport, Omar also announced a financial assistance of 75,000 rupees as initial instalment for those who lost their homes and for rebuilding them.
He said a team of six senior ministers from the State has been sent to apprise the Prime Minister of the situation in the state in the aftermath of the natural calamity.
