J&K completes 209 road projects in 7 months

In Jammu and Kashmir during last seven months, 209 road projects have been completed against the 257 in last eight years in the state under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme. Aimed at constructing 2239 km of roads at a cost of Rs.1463.20 crore connecting 584 habitations as many as 496 road projects have been sanctioned under the 7th phase of the PMGSY. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while chairing a review meeting of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) at Jammu yesterday emphasized on time bound completion of road communication works under PMGSY. The Chief Minister said that the 100 percent centrally sponsored PMGSY is aimed at providing all weather road connectivity to unconnected habitations in the state. AIR Correspondent Yogesh Sharma reports that the State Minister for Forests gave a brief account of the issuance of clearance by forest department to PMGSY schemes and said that the process has been put on fast track and priority is being given to this aspect. Speaking in the meeting, State Chief Secretary asked the Forest, Revenue and Public Works Departments to make joint surveys in the areas where concurrence and clearance from all these departments is required so that the cases are processed and cleared in one go.
