Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today sought a time-bound inquiry into the Handwara firing incident during her meeting with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in New Delhi.<br/><br/>Ms. Mehbooba said the probe will act as a deterrent against such incidents in future. She said the Defence Minister has assured her that the culprits will be punished.<br/><br/>Later, she also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed various issues pertaining to the state. Sources said during the meeting which was described as a courtesy call, Ms Mehbooba, informed the Prime Minister about her meetings with various Union Ministers since yesterday.<br/><br/>Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, who separately met her, said the Chief Minister demanded inclusion of Jammu and Srinagar cities in smart cities project. Mr. Naidu said , the issue of Srinagar NIT students also cropped up and the Chief Minister said that every step will be taken to ensure safety of students.<br/><br/>The NIT Srinagar has been at the centre of a controversy recently when clashes broke out between outstation and local students following India's defeat by West Indies in the World T20 Cup. <br/><br/>Meanwhile the death toll in yesterday's firing incident in Handwara reached three after woman sustaining bullet injuries succumbed in hospital today. The army today released a video of the girl denying molestation by any army personnel at Handwara yesterday.<br/><br/>According to the Srinagar based army spokesperson Col N N Joshi, the army has verified the authenticity of the video and identity of the girl.<br/><br/>The incident took place after reports surfaced that some army personnel had allegedly molested a girl returning from school. <br/><br/>PTI quoting sources reports that, police investigations have so far indicated that no such incident had taken place and it was an attempt by some miscreants to create disturbance for removing an army bunker located within Handwara town.
