Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has appealed for peace and vowed not to allow the perpetrators of violence in the Kashmir valley to succeed. Asking people to cooperate with him to help restore calm in the state, Mr. Omar Abdullah said, he is willing to take ten steps forward and appealed to them to come forward at least one step and help create a situation conducive to end the cycle of violence in the State. The Cabinet Committee on Security that met lastnight took stock of the situation in the Kashmir valley. The meeting was presided over by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. AIR correspondent reports, that the views of the political parties and security agencies have been discussed besides the proposal of State Chief Minister Omar Abduallah for beginning internal dialogue with all shades of opinion. The Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A K Antony and other senior officials from Home and defence ministries also attended the meeting. The situation in the Kashmir valley meanwhile, continues to be tense after Sunday's death of seven persons in protests and clashes. Four persons had died in a blast in Khrew area of Pulwama district after an angry mob set a police camp on fire. The blast occurred as the ammunition in the camp went off. More than thirty people, most of them protesters, were injured in the blast. Earlier on Sunday, a women and two youths were killed in separate incidents when security forces opened fire to disperse protestors. In Pampore, protesters set a Tehsil office and several Government vehicles on fire. AIR correspondent reports, that there were protests in many areas in the valley last evening and more than 12 persons were injured in police action at Anantnag, Sopore and Srinagar.
