In Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu city has been placed under maximum alert and the state's border with Punjab has been sealed to prevent entry of BJP activists for hoisting the national flag in Srinagar on the Republic Day. The State government has already said that it will not allow flag hoisting at Lal Chowk or permit any other programme which disturbs peace in the state. AIR correspondent reports that tight security is in place. The State BJP leaders has reiterated to go ahead with its flag hoisting programme at Lal Chowk. Meanwhile, the state Governor said maintenance of peace, harmony and amity are a must during the celebrations and no political or other issue should be allowed to disturb the event.
