J&K bandh observed in protest against killing of Sikhs

A complete bandh was observed in Jammu today in protest against the beheading of two members of the community by Taliban in Pakistan's restive tribal area. The call for the bandh was given by Jammu and Kashmir Sikh United Front (JKSUF) and supported by BJP, VHP, JKNPP, Jammu Bar Association, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, besides social organisations.<br/><br/>Sikh protestors blocked the Jammu-Pathankot national highway for over four hours by burning tyres and resorted to anti-Taliban slogans and demonstrations in the city. They were demanding the Central government to take up the matter with Pakistan. Administration had deployed police force in strength to ensure bandh passes off peacefully. Local public transport remained off the road which created inconvenience to the common people. <br/><br/>All the business establishments and markets in the city remained closed. People were seen walking on the roads to reach their destinations. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly also strongly condemned the killing of innocent Sikhs in Pakistan by Taliban militants. <br/><br/>Speaker Legislative Assembly, M.A.Lone urged the state Government to take up the issue with the Centre for taking appropriate action. Opposition PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the beheading incident and asked the Pakistan government to provide security to the minority Sikhs in that country.
