The summer session of Jammu and Kashmir Legislature commenced in Srinagar today. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah lamented that the State is passing through a crucial period and politics is being done on the dead bodies. Expressing heart-felt condolences to the families of those who got killed in the valley during the recent unrest, the Chief Minister urged all to join hand in finding a solution to the political problems in the State. The main opposition People's Democratic Party announced to boycott the remaining part of the session as a mark of protest against the curfew and other alleged measures by the State Government in dealing with the prevailing situation. The leader of Opposition Mehbooba Mufti immediately after the commencement of the session said that the present Assembly seems to have lost all credibility in the eyes of the people and unless the Government adopts a healing-touch policy, the deliberation of the House will have no meaning. The House today adopted an obituary resolution condoling the death of former Vice President of India Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and other former members of the State Assembly who had passed away in the inter-session period. The House also expressed condolence to those who lost their kiths and kins in cloud-burst in Leh and violence in the valley.
