In Jammu and Kashmir, the bill banning Inter-district recruitment passed by both the Houses of the State Legislature yesterday has evoked strong reaction and resentment from various Gujjar and Backward organizations.

These organisations have described the bill as anti-tribal and have decided to move Supreme Court against the bill which they say, is aimed to snatch the constitutional rights of tribals.

Reports of protest demonstrations have come from twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri by the activists in these districts.

However, the State Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar has described the bill as a landmark legislation, saying it has been framed keeping in view the interests of every section of society and region.

The passage of the bill makes it binding for all recruitment agencies in the State to fill up district and divisional cadre posts upto 92 per cent from within the candidates of districts and division while keeping 8 per cent reservation quota of scheduled castes open in the entire State.
