Jammu & Kashmir Assembly today adopted the resolution extending the GST to the state, amid protests by opposition parties. The resolution seeks to incorporate safeguards to the special constitutional position of state especially Article 370 of Indian Constitution and Article 5 of J&K Constitution. The State govt has called an emergency Cabinet meeting this evening to give concurrence to the related amendments pertaining to the GST Resolution. <br/><br/>As per the procedure, the Cabinet will send a recommendation to President of India to extend the GST to Jammu & Kashmir . This will be followed by modifying the Constitutional Application Order of 1954 by the President which will complete the process of extending GST to the State.<br/><br/>The Opposition parties continued their protests and voiced their concerns and opinion against GST implementation demanding all constitutional, administrative and fiscal safeguards for the J&K having special position under Article 370 of the Consitution of India.<br/><br/>A special session of Legislative Assembly was convened yesterday to debate the implementation of the GST bill. The Session is likely to continue for next two to three days to reach the consensus in the Legislature.<br/><br/>Opposition parties and Kashmiri businessmen have been opposing the GST, saying it infringes on J&K's residual political autonomy and its special powers to legislate on financial matters.

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has passed resolution for implementing GST amidst protest by opposition parties. A resolution was moved in both the houses of the Legislature by the government yesterday seeking implementation of GST in the State.
