The Army has taken responsibility for Budgam firing incident on November 3 in Jammu & Kashmir in which two persons were killed, admitting that it was a mistake. The Army also announced Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of each of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh each for the injured.
Talking to reporters in Srinagar, Lt Gen D S Hooda of the Northern Army command promised a transparent inquiry. He said that stern action will be taken if the investigation confirms that violation has taken place. Regretting the loss of lives, Gen. Hooda expressed his sympathy with the bereaved families .
He declared that the Army will fully cooperate with the police investigation. He said that it will be ensured that such incidents do not take place in future adding that there was an information about militant movement in a white Maruti car. The Senior Army Officer said that it was a case of mistaken identity adding Army accepts responsibility for this unfortunate incident.
Two people were killed and two others were injured when an Army mobile checking post opened fire on a vehicle on Monday.
