J&K: Amarnath Yatra is in progress from Baltal & Pahalgam route

In Jammu & Kashmir, the 40 day annual Amarnath Yatra is in progress from both Baltal route in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district and Pahalgam route in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. The Yatra commenced on June 29 and will conclude on 7th August, the Shrawan Purnima day coinciding with Raksha Bandhan festival.<br/><br/>With the killing of 7 Yatris in Anantnag by terrorists on Monday evening, the number of yatris who died during this year's yatra has reached 21. Of these, 14 pilgrims have died due to natural causes and accidents so far. AIR correspondent reports that Over 1 Lakh 57 thousand 600 Yatris had darshan of ice lingam till last evening. <br/><br/>A fresh batch of about 3800 (3791) registered pilgrims including 721 women left Jammu Base Camp in the wee hours today for Pahalgam and Baltal Yatra Base Camps in Kashmir. Of these, 2805 pilgrims are Pahalgam base camp bound while 986 Yatris will reach Baltal base camp till late night today. A multi-layered security arrangement has been put in place that is manned by the Army, CRPF, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), BSF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
