J&K Administration starts rescue and relief operations in higher reaches of Jammu region

In Jammu and Kashmir Administration has started a rescue and relief operations following reports that Gujjars and Bakerwals have suffered huge losses in terms of livestock and property due to untimely and unseasonal snowfall in higher reaches of Kishtwar district in Jammu region. According to official sources, a large number of cattle have perished in Warwan, Navapachi and Marwah due to the heavy snowfall which has also resulted in number of Gujjar and Bakerwals taking ill. A joint party of the army and the civilian administration from Kishtwar immediately swung into action and organized rescue & relief operations in the remote areas of Warwan. On Monday, a joint relief column comprising of Army doctors, civilian veterinary doctors, police personnel and officials from the District Headquarter Kishtwar were airlifted from Kishtwar to Warwan. The team carried along with them sufficient quantities of medicines. The team will undertake simultaneous relief work in Warwan & Navapachchi areas for the next four to five days. <br/>Meanwhile, as part of providing relief to nomads, a Red Cross team and relatives of nomads who are believed to be trapped in the higher reaches of Kishtwar district today took off in Helicopters from Udhampur. The team carried blankets, woolens, medicines and food packets with them for the trapped nomads.<br/>
