In Jammu and Kashmir, seven security personnel and four militants were killed in a pre-dawn attack on an Army camp at Mohra in Baramulla district. A group of five to six Fidayeen attacked the Army camp at Mohra in the wee hours under the cover of darkness.
Police said, militants carried out the attack around 3.10 AM and engaged the security forces in a fierce gun-battle. Militants first hurled hand grenades and resorted to indiscriminate firing before sneaking into the camp. In the exchange of fire, four army personnel including an officer of Two -IC Rank and three policemen were killed, while four militants were also neutralized.
The attack comes just four days ahead of elections in Uri and six other constituencies of the Baramulla district on December 9. Firing has stopped and the area is being sensitized .
On December 2, Army foiled an infiltration bid in Handwara area of Kupwara district killing six militants while one army personnel was also killed. The infiltration bid was foiled even as people in Kupwara district were voting to elect their representatives.
In another incident in the state, an encounter broke out between militants and police in the outskirts of Srinagar city today. According to police sources, the encounter started following a specific information about the presence of militants in Soura area of Srinagar. One militant is believed to have been killed in the encounter.
