In the Kashmir valley, Independence Day parades were held in all the district headquarters. The main function at Srinagar was held at Bakshi Statium where the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unfurled the tricolour. Addressing the gathering, he lauded the people of the State for extending help in ensuring peace in the valley this year resulting in rapid economic development and tourism activity.
