Jitendra Singh to inaugurate awareness campaign on cancer in Shillong tomorrow

The North East Council is holding week long awareness campaign on cancer entitled "NEC Pink Chain Cancer Conclave – 2016" at shillong for a week starting from tomorrow. <br/><br/>Speaking to newsmen in Shillong today, NEC Secretary Ram Muivah said Union Minister for Department of North Eastern Region Dr Jitendra Singh will inaugurate the campaign tomorrow morning. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion Dr Abhishek Shanker of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, said 70 percent of cancer is preventable and 80 percent of cancer is curable.The incidence of stomach cancer is very high in Mizoram comparable to that of Japan the highest in the world. <br/><br/>In Manipur the incidence of lung cancer is very high both in male as well as in female, this is owing to the habit of tobacco use in the form of smoking and hookah and consuming smoke meat, higher drinking habits and high level of cigarette smoking. <br/><br/>The conclave will also showcase a play on cancer "Can Survive" by alumni from National School of Drama.
