Jharkhand: Shibu Soren refuses to step down

Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren has refused to step down. Talking to reporters in Bokaro, Mr. Soren said that the issue of his stepping down from the Chief Minsitership will be decided at JMM Parliamentary Board meeting. Shibu Soren declined to give a specific date for his resignation. This statement of Mr. Soren has created a fresh controversy in the state. BJP and JMM having already agreed to share power on a rotational basis. <br/>Asked whether he would quit on May 25, a date given by the leaders of the BJP and the AJSU he said, could be BJP’s date, but not mine. On May 18, when the agreement had been reached between the two parties for sharing power on a rotational basis, Mr. Soren had not given a specific date for stepping down.<br/>BJP had announced its decision to withdraw support to the Shibu Soren government on April 28 after the JMM chief voted against the BJP-sponsored cut-motions in the Lok Sabha.<br/>However, after Soren's son Hemant made an offer to BJP to head the government in the state, the BJP revoked its decision, but a tussle ensued on the power-sharing formula.<br/>Earlier in the day the Congress and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha held a combined press conference in Ranchi and asserted that their political alliance will continue in future. <br/><br/>
