In Jharkhand, police and security forces have launched a search operation against the Naxals in Saryu areas under Latehar and Garu police stations of Latehar district.Eight bombs, long wires and other objectionable materials have been seized. Meanwhile, the Center has agreed to provide additional forces to the state to fight Naxal violence.Jharkhand has poor track record of utilizing Central funds for fighting Naxals. Union Home Ministry has allotted Rs. 70 crore to the state police for necessary infrastructure like forward campaign sites, barracks and temporary shelters. But the state has furnished utilization certificate for Rs. 22 crore only during the last four years. This is one of the indicators that show that much needs to be done in some critical areas.Seeing the increased activities soon after the recent visit of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to Ranchi, one can hope that things could improve in the state.
