Jharkhand: Jamshedpur LS Constituency records 48% polling

In Jharkhand, 48 per cent voters cast their votes in the by-election of Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency. Polling has been thorouighly peaceful, despite a 24 hrs bandh call given by the naxals. However, the election was marred by controversy of politician-naxal nexus in the election. BJP has accused the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) candidate Dr. Ajay Kumar of seeking favors from the naxals in the election. A complaint to the EC was made by a BJP leader Saryu Rai through a CD in which a reported telephonic conversations between the JVM candidate Dr. Ajay Kumar and top naxal commander Samarji was made. ‘Dr. Ajay Kumar has, meanwhile, admitted that his conversation with the top naxal commander in the CD is authentic, but questioned how such CD came to the BJP. ‘Earlier today, JVM chief Babulal Marandi, had alleged that the CD to be fake and had demanded a judicial probe in the matter. ‘Our Ranchi Correspondent reports that the result of this by-election is considered significant, as it could re-arrange political equations between different political parties in the state.’Counting will take place on Monday.
