Jharkhand heads towards hung assembly

Jharkhand is heading for hung assembly again. The results and trends so far indicate that no single party or alliance may be in a position to muster majority in the 81 member assembly. With the fractured results, the JMM again may emerge as a key player in government formation.Congress and its allies have won five seats and leading in 19, the BJP has bagged seven seats and is leading in 16 with its ally JD(U). The JMM has won two seats and leading in 13 others. RJD and its allies have bagged one seat and are leading in six. Others have won two and leading in 10 seats. The prominent winners include Geeta Koda, wife of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, in Jagannathpur constituency, Nilkanth Singh Munda of BJP from Khunti, Nalin Soren of JMM and a former Minister from Sikaripara, Sourav Narayan Singh of Congress in Hazari Bagh, Chandrashekhar Dubey of Congress from Bishrampur, Dulu Mahato of JVM(Prajatantrik) from Baghmara constituency. Other prominent winners are Umashankar Akela of BJP from Barhi, Deepak Birua of JMM from Chaibasa, Arvind Kumar singh of JVM(P) from Ichagarh and an independent candidate Bidesh Singh from Panki constituency and Sudha Choudhary of JD(U) from Chhattarpur constituency. The prominent losers include Bagun Sumbrai , former Deputy Speaker and congress candidate in Chaibasa and Manoj Yadav, leader of Congress Legislature Party in the outgoing House. The Congress which had nine seats in the 2005 assembly polls seems to be making a marginal gain. Its ally Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) led by Babulal Marandi could turn out to be the major gainer. BJP, which had 30 seats in the outgoing assembly, appears to be suffering a set back. State BJP President and former Minister Raghubar Das is leading in Jamshadpur seat. Acting state PCC President Furkan Ansari is leading in Jamtara constituency. The Speaker of dissolved assembly Alamgir Alam of Congres, who was earlier leading is now trailing behind his nearest BJP rival in Pakur constituency. JMM candidate Simon Marandi was ahead of his Congress rival in Littipara while sitting RJD member Annapurna Devi was leading in Kodarma. In Ranchi, C P Singh of BJP is leading. Shailedra Mahato of JDU is trailing in Bokaro. JVM candidate Chandrika Mahtha was leading in Jamua constituency.
