Jharkhand: Gumla District women says cultivating lemon grass more profitable than traditional crops

In Jharkhand, more than 1600 women of naxal-affected villages under Bishunpur block of Gumla district are turning self-sufficient by cultivating new crops and adopting novel methods of plantation of Lemon Grass with the help of Self Help Groups. <br />''   <br />'' Praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in today's edition of Mann Ki Baat, these women have set an example by doubling their income and building a self-sufficient lifestyle. <br />''   <br />'' More than 32 women SHGs have been properly trained by NGO Vikas Bharti, Bishunpur in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Jharkhand State Livelihood Mission. <br />''   <br />'' Not only these women groups are earning through Lemongrass cultivation, they have also been extracting oil from two plants established by the SHGs and make handsome earning from the oil extracts of lemongrass which is in high demand.<br />''   <br />'' Now the new farming methodology adopted by locals have stopped migration of people from this region, while women of the village have also realized their responsibility towards society and the nation.<br />''   <br />'' Women have not only generated employment opportunities but also followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call of Vocal For Local and Atmanirbhar Bharat. <br />''  <br />''  ''<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height:200%"><br />''</p>
