The Jharkhand, state government has already constructed 7285 km of all -weather roads that connects about 3200 habitats across the state. The roads have been constructed under the 'Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojna'. AIR correspondent reports that about 11 km of metal roads have also been constructed in last two moths in Saranda forest range. Although the overall target of seventy thousands kilometre roads connecting about 10 thousands habitats is quite an ambitious task for Jharkhand under ‘Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yozna’, but the works are surely coming on grounds. Seeing the shortage of quality contractors, the state government has sought the services of the Central Government PSU- Indian Railways Construction Company – IRCON, to undertake construction of roads under, although three other Central PSUs – HSCL, NPCC and NBCC are being already used for the Yojana. Apart from perennial Maoists threats to any construction works in rural areas and problem of getting clearances from the forest department, the issue of acquiring private land for this Yozna is also acting as roadblock. But the state government is clear that it will overcome all these challenges, reports AIR correspondent.
