Jena inaugurates 2-day National Seminar on Social Group Statistics

The Minister of State for Statistics and Programme implementation, Mr. Srikant Kumar Jena inaugurated the two day National Seminar on Social Group Statistics and Present Statistical system, in New Delhi today.

Speaking on the occasion the minister called on Statisticians and Social Scientists to gather Specific Data to assist in the planing and implementation of Social welfare programs of the government. He also asked for addressing the core issues of removing conflicts and for ensuring cohesiveness within the Society.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman Indian Council of Social Science Research Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat, said, there is a need to reform the statistical system to improve understanding of all aspects of the society including culture, religion, economy and politics. He said, availability of detailed data is important for the implementation of nation building policies.
